Biography

Saint Theodora the Empress, also known as Theodora the Wife or Theodora of Byzantium, was an influential figure in the Byzantine Empire during the 9th century. Born in the year 815, she was married to Emperor Theophilus, a ruler known for his brutality and thuggish behavior. Theodora's life took a significant turn when she became a mother to Emperor Michael III, who was known for his indulgence in alcohol and debauchery. Unfortunately, shortly after Theophilus' death, her son ascended the throne, resulting in a tumultuous period for Theodora. Despite the challenges she faced, Theodora proved to be a woman of great strength and determination. Immediately after her husband's passing, she took charge and put an end to the iconoclast persecutions that had been rampant during his reign.
