He was appointed as a canon at the Joyenval monastery, situated in the Ile-de-France region of France. He was appointed as a Norbertine visitor, tasked with inspecting various monasteries across Austria, Hungary, and the German regions of Swabia and Bavaria.

Blessed Jean of Hainaut lived a life deeply rooted in his faith and commitment to the Catholic Church.
