Blessed Pablo Martínez Esteban, also known as Gaspar, was born on 24 March 1898 in Los Balbases, Burgos, Spain. He was a devoted monk and a member of the Marist Brothers of the Schools. Born into a Catholic family, Pablo Martínez developed a strong faith from an early age.
As a Marist Brother, Pablo Martínez dedicated his life to the service of God and the education of young people. He lived a life of humility, simplicity, and selflessness, striving to emulate the love and teachings of Jesus Christ. His dedication to his religious calling and his commitment to the well-being of others earned him the admiration and respect of those who knew him.
However, during a tumultuous period in Spanish history, the Spanish Civil War erupted, tearing the country apart. As the conflict escalated in 1936, religious persecution became rampant, with many clergy members and religious individuals targeted
for their faith. Sadly, Brother Pablo Martínez Esteban fell victim to this persecution, ultimately sacrificing his life for his unwavering devotion to God.
On 24 July 1936, in Madrid, Spain, Brother Pablo Martínez was martyred for his faith. He remained steadfast in his beliefs until his last breath, refusing to renounce his Catholicism despite the threats and dangers he faced. His witness to the Gospel and his courageous testimony in the face of persecution serve as an enduring inspiration for all believers.
