Beato Francisco Mallo Sánchez

Blessed Francisco Mallo Sánchez, also known as Brother Francisco Alfredo, was a devoted member of the Brothers of the Christian Schools and a martyr of the Spanish Civil War. He was born on August 16, 1916, in Santa Marina del Rey, León, Spain.

Throughout his life, Francisco displayed a deep commitment to his faith and a strong desire to serve others. He joined the Brothers of the Christian Schools, a religious congregation founded by Saint John Baptist de La Salle, where he dedicated himself to the education and upbringing of children in accordance with Catholic teachings.

Tragically, during the Spanish Civil War, Francisco's unwavering faith and his faithful vocation became a target of persecution. On August 13, 1936, in El Torrent, Barcelona, Spain, he was martyred for his refusal to renounce his religious beliefs.

Blessed Francisco's selfless dedication and ultimate sacrifice have earned him veneration. On June 22, 2004, Pope John Paul II officially recognized his martyrdom through a decree, which further solidified his esteemed status within the Catholic Church. The beatification ceremony took place on October 28, 2007, led by Pope Benedict XVI, who acknowledged Francisco's heroic virtue and ultimate martyrdom.
