Biografía

Blessed Maria de Puiggraciós Badia Flaquer, also known as Sister Maria del Patrocini de Sant Josep, was a Carmelite nun belonging to the Ancient Observance order. She was born on August 28, 1903, in Bigas, a small town in Barcelona, Spain.

From an early age, Maria showed great piety and a strong desire to dedicate her life to God. This calling led her to enter the Carmelites of the Ancient Observance, where she embraced a life of prayer, contemplation, and service to others.

During the turbulent period of the Spanish Civil War, where religious persecution was rampant, Sister Maria remained steadfast in her faith and commitment to her religious community. Despite knowing the risks involved, she courageously continued with her duties and lived out her vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience.

Sadly, on August 13, 1936, Sister Maria was martyred in Vic, Barcelona, Spain for her unwavering faith. Alongside many other religious men and women who were targeted during the war, she became a witness to the Gospel and a symbol of fortitude in the face of danger.

In recognition of her virtuous life and the sacrifice she made for her faith, Pope Benedict XVI venerated Sister Maria de Puiggraciós Badia Flaquer on June 26, 2006, through a decree of martyrdom. Just over a year later, on October 28, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI beatified her, raising her to the rank of Blessed in the Catholic Church.

While the specific representation of Blessed Maria de Puiggraciós Badia Flaquer is not provided in the available details, her life and martyrdom serve as a profound inspiration for all those who seek to live out their faith amid challenging circumstances. Her feast day is celebrated on August 13th each year, inviting the faithful to remember her courageous witness and seek her intercession.

Blessed Maria de Puiggraciós Badia Flaquer's story serves as a reminder of the many men and women who, throughout history, have given their lives for Christ and the Church. Their examples continue to inspire and strengthen the faithful, reminding all of the true cost and beauty of discipleship.
