Biografía

Blessed Pablo Díaz De Zárate Y Ortiz De Zárate, also known as Norberto José, was a professed religious in the Brothers of the Christian Schools, also known as the De La Salle Brothers. He was born on 21 January 1892 in Murua-Cogoitia, Alava, Spain.

Pablo dedicated his life to the service of God and others as a member of the De La Salle Brothers. He joined the religious community, known for their commitment to education and the formation of young people, and embraced their charism of providing a Christian education to the youth.

During the tumultuous period of the Spanish Civil War, Pablo found himself caught in the midst of the conflict. He witnessed the violence and persecution faced by many Catholics and religious individuals during this time. Despite the dangers, he steadfastly held onto his faith and continued to carry out his mission of teaching and guiding young minds, seeking to impart knowledge and the love of God to his students.

Sadly, on 30 July 1936, Pablo met a martyr's death. He was killed in Casa de Campo, Madrid, Spain, as a result of his unwavering commitment to the Catholic faith. His courageous witness to his beliefs, even in the face of great adversity, is a testament to his deep love for Christ and his dedication to the mission of the De La Salle Brothers.

Pope Benedict XVI, recognizing the heroic virtues and martyrdom of Pablo Díaz De Zárate Y Ortiz De Zárate, decreed his veneration on 19 December 2011. This act of veneration acknowledged his sanctity and his willingness to sacrifice his life for his faith. Later, on 13 October 2013, Pope Francis beatified him, formally recognizing him as Blessed Pablo Díaz De Zárate Y Ortiz De Zárate.

Blessed Pablo, with his steadfastness and commitment to his faith, serves as an inspiration to all Christians, especially those involved in education. His martyrdom stands as a reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by the Church and the importance of living out one's faith courageously, even in the most difficult of circumstances.
