Saint Begu of Hackness, also known as Saint Bee, was a renowned nun who dedicated her life to serving God and the Church. Born in the 7th century, little is known about her early life, including her place of birth and her family background. However, her unwavering faith and commitment to God led her to join the religious community at Hackness, Yorkshire, England. Hackness Abbey, situated in the beautiful region of Yorkshire, was a flourishing center of spirituality and learning during the medieval period. Saint Begu's decision to join this religious community demonstrates her desire to embrace a life of prayer, asceticism, and service to God. As a nun at Hackness, Saint Begu devoted her days to prayer, meditation, and diligent study of the Scriptures.
