Saint Egelred of Crowland, also known as Aegered or Egelredus, was a monk at Crowland Abbey in England. He is venerated as a martyr, having been killed by pagan Danish invaders. Although not much is known about his life, the events surrounding his martyrdom have immortalized him as a revered figure in Christian history. Egelred was born in the 9th century, and he dedicated his life to the service of God as a monk at Crowland Abbey. The abbey, located in present-day Lincolnshire, was a center of spiritual and intellectual activity during this period.
