Biography

Saint Placid of Dissentis, also known as Placido, was a wealthy landowner in seventh-century Switzerland. He is best known for his close association with Saint Sigisbert of Dissentis and his significant contributions towards the establishment of Dissentis Abbey in Switzerland. Placid was born into a wealthy family, and his early life was marked by his privileged position. However, as he grew older, he became increasingly disillusioned with the materialistic lifestyle that often accompanied wealth. Seeking a higher purpose in life, Placid sought solace in the Christian faith and was profoundly moved by the teachings of Christ. His encounters with Saint Sigisbert further deepened his spiritual journey.
