Blessed Eufrasio of the Child Jesus, also known as Eufrasio Barredo Fernández, was a Discalced Carmelite priest who met a tragic end during the religious persecutions of the Spanish Civil War. He was born on 8 February 1897 in Cancienes, Asturias, Spain, to a devout Catholic family.
From a young age, Eufrasio Barredo Fernández felt a deep calling to dedicate his life to serving God. He entered the Discalced Carmelite Order and was ordained a priest. Throughout his religious journey, he displayed exceptional holiness, showcasing a profound love for God and a strong devotion to the Child Jesus.
During the tumultuous times of the Spanish Civil War, when religious persecution was rampant, Eufrasio continued to steadfastly serve his community. Unfortunately, his dedication to his faith and his vocation would ultimately lead to his martyrdom.
On 12 October 1934, in Oviedo, Asturias, Spain, Eufrasio Barredo Fernández was brutally murdered for his unwavering commitment to his beliefs. His life was taken solely because of his religious identity, making him a true martyr for the faith.
