Beato Joaquín Rodríguez Bueno

Blessed Joaquin Rodríguez Bueno, also known as Ireneo Jacinto, was a professed religious in the Brothers of the Christian Schools, commonly known as the De La Salle Brothers. He was born on August 20, 1910, in Mazuelo de Muñó, a small town in Burgos, Spain.

Joaquin Rodríguez Bueno joined the De La Salle Brothers and dedicated his life to the service of God and the education of young people. He was known for his commitment to the principles of the Christian Brothers, following in the footsteps of their founder, St. John Baptist de La Salle.

During the turbulent years of the Spanish Civil War, which took place from 1936 to 1939, Joaquin Rodríguez Bueno faced tremendous challenges due to his religious vocation. Along with many other clergy and religious who remained faithful to the Catholic Church, he became a target of persecution by anti-Catholic forces.

Tragically, on July 22, 1936, while in Almudena, Madrid, Joaquin Rodríguez Bueno was martyred for his faith. He valiantly embraced his martyrdom, standing firm in his beliefs until the end. His unwavering commitment to his faith and the principles of the Christian Brothers serves as an inspiration to all who follow in his footsteps.

Recognizing his heroic witness, Pope Benedict XVI declared Joaquin Rodríguez Bueno as venerable on December 19, 2011, through a decree of martyrdom. His beatification followed on October 13, 2013, by Pope Francis, further honoring his sacrifice and acknowledging his sanctity.

Blessed Joaquin Rodríguez Bueno's feast day is celebrated on July 22nd each year. His life and martyrdom continue to inspire and guide both members of the De La Salle Brothers and all individuals dedicated to the service of God and the education of young people.
