Beato Victoriano Fernández Reinoso

Blessed Victoriano Fernández Reinoso was a cleric in the Salesians of Don Bosco and a martyr of the Spanish Civil War. He was born on 27 January 1913 in Campos, Orense, Spain.

Victoriano Fernández Reinoso joined the Salesians of Don Bosco, a religious order dedicated to the education and welfare of young people, and he became a dedicated and passionate member of the clergy. Known for his deep faith, humility, and kindness, he touched the lives of many with his selfless service and dedication to God.

Sadly, the Spanish Civil War erupted in 1936, marking a difficult and violent period in Spanish history. During this time, religious persecution was widespread, and many priests and religious individuals became targets of persecution and martyrdom.

On 22 July 1936, in Madrid, Spain, Victoriano Fernández Reinoso was brutally martyred for his unwavering devotion to his faith. He bravely faced persecution and death, remaining steadfast in his commitment to Christ. His martyrdom is a testament to his courage and unwavering faith even in the face of extreme adversity.

Recognizing the extraordinary sacrifice of Blessed Victoriano Fernández Reinoso, Pope Benedict XVI, on 26 June 2006, declared him venerable, acknowledging his heroic virtue. Then, on 28 October 2007, Pope Benedict XVI beatified him, further honoring his memory and example as a blessed martyr of the Church.

Blessed Victoriano Fernández Reinoso's feast day is celebrated on 22 July, the day of his martyrdom. His life and martyrdom serve as a source of inspiration for all believers, reminding them of the importance of faith, resilience, and courage in the face of persecution.
